The Bulgarian Black Sea complex is the first resort which has been awarded with the title “European resort of Sport”. It ranks among the most elite sports resorts in Europe thanks to the excellent infrastructure and investments in its improvements made in the last years. That allows practicing of more than 40 sport activities for people in all ages.  During a conference in Sofia, the deputy director of Marketing and Sales in Albena AD, Dimitar Tachev said:
“This year, as a European Resort of Sport, we have over 100 sports events and activities in the calendar, including five European championships. The European Women’s Football Championship finals UEFA EURO U17, which will gather the eight strongest teams on the continent, are of particular interest.” The event will be held from 05 to 20 May.
 
The sport program of Albena resort begins on 06 April with the European Table Tennis Championship for deaf players. Then it continues with the European Tennis Championship of the railway companies in Europe from 28th May, the European Field Hockey Championship for juniors, organized for the beginning of July and the European Petanque Championship – from 16th to 22nd September.      
 
Among the key events for this summer it will be an Aerobic festival featuring the Hollywood star and creator of Tae-bo – Billy Blanks (from 21st to 23rd June) and for the end of September it is scheduled to host a Week of tennis stars – demonstrative matches with some of the well-known former tennis players on the continent, including Karol Ku?era. The resort also prepares a partnership with one of the most popular football schools in Germany, located in Bochum city, North Rhine-Westphalia.  
 
The sport calendar consists of events at the level of professional sport as well as amateur tournaments.  A swimming school for children and adults starts lessons from this March in the renovated indoor swimming pool with mineral water located in the heart of Albena resort.
 
At the same time, this summer the resort will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
