At we have a great selection of cottages with land for around the 10 000 Euro mark that would make fantastic holiday homes but they all have one thing in common; they will need some work to get them to 'western standards'. 

These works usually include, but are not limited to, new kitchen, new bathroom (sometimes the entire bathroom needs to be built from scratch), new electrics and various other cosmetic jobs. 

One of the most common questions we are asked about our older homes in Bulgaria is how much will it cost to renovate? As you can imagine, this is not an easy question to ask (how long is a piece of string? How many extras do you want this piece of string to have?) because all homes are unique. And in the majority of cases, each renovation job is unique to the client and what they wish the end result to be.

In just about all cases the cost of materials and labour together will usually amount to less than labour charges alone in the UK and we have consulted with a UK builder to give accurate comparisons below:

BG: 33 Euros per m2 including tiles & all materials

Re-wiring including light fittings

UK: £3000-£3500
BG: 2000 Euros (includes re-plastering of chased areas)

UK: £7500+
BG: 3500 Euros (including materials, labour, plant hire)

The above figures are of course guidelines only as each property may require more or less work. But building works in Bulgaria will cost you considerably less than UK prices (or indeed Western European prices).
